CENTRE VILLE AVIGNON

It is almost 4 pm and I am back from roaming the streets of Avignon, the part inside the city walls. But first, my petit dejouner across the courtyard. Pictures to follow. So French. So lovely. C'est une jolie ville. I took lots of photos. As I was walking down the busy, shoplined main street, I heard the voice of Kristen whom I met yesterday. She and Michelle had been spending the morning with Laurie whom they had met somehow via the www. Of all things...guess where Laurie was from. Charlotte and she went to South! She asked, South Mecklenburg? in disbelief when I told her my high school. Laurie has been here for eight years and was a great help in explaining some French ways. She took us to a wine shop and a super marche - market. Then we all sat outside under umbrellas and had coffees. I got basically a tall espresso that was probably 4 ounces. Lovely weather. I think the coffee here is just great. We tqlked a little about the age of this city. About all the buildings were built between the 1300s and the 1500s. Think of all the people who have lived here. Lived and died. The wars. The plagues. And the styles of the times over the past centuries. Now I must find a way to the TGV gare.
